In 2023, and in conjunction with employers and the British Sleep Society, the National School of Healthcare Science developed a new training pathway. NHS England is inviting expressions of interest for the programme again in 2024.

The programmes is aimed at the gaps at level 6 and level 7 – providing workforce with the opportunity to address the current workforce deficit, to backfill positions opened as existing practitioners enter advanced training in Sleep Science and to staff the Community Diagnostic Centres (CDCs). The Post Graduate Certificate in Sleep Medicine is a new programme designed to support the delivery of services by different staff in different settings, by educating colleagues in the underpinning science to deliver a clinical role in a chronically understaffed specialism.  Academic training is provided by the University of the West of England and is completed in 12-months.
